Father Professor Hobeika appointed President of the USEK (Lebanon)
Father Professor Hobeika has held several leading academic and administrative positions. At the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities from 1992 till 2001. Between 2001 and 2010, he served as the Vice-President for Research and Francophone Affairs, the President of the Higher Research Centre as well as the President of the Doctoral College. As President of the USEK Construction Commission for 4 years (2002-2006), he oversaw all the site constructions and renovations held at the University. In 2010, Father Professor Hobeika was appointed as Vice-President for International Affairs, and later in 2013 as the Deputy-President for Francophone International Affairs.
In 2011, Father Professor Hobeika received the award of the Insignia of Officer from the Order of Academic Palms by the French Government for his major academic contributions.
On the national level, from 2002 to date, Father Professor Hobeika has been serving as a member of the Equivalence Committee at the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
On the international level, he is member of the Board of Directors of ACISE (International Catholic Association of Institutions of Education Sciences, and the Sectorial Group of the International Federation of Catholic Universities - IFCU), and a Member of the Board of Unimed (Union of Mediterranean Universities). He has contributed in several areas of studies and has lectured in philosophy, politics, education, ethics, religion, socio-economics. He is also a Visiting Professor and Lecturer in numerous countries including France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Chile, Argentina and Australia. He is fluent in four languages: Arabic, French, English and German.
Father Professor Hobeika was born in Meedane in the district of Jezzine in South Lebanon, but he also has French citizenship. He received his Ph.D. degree in German Philosophy with highest distinction from Paris-Sorbonne University in 1992. He took his first degree in Theology from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in 1983. He is the author of several widely published books and articles.
