NEWS FROM THE XAVIER BOARD FOR HIGHER EDUCATION IN INDIA (XBHEI)

A new Catholic University established in Kolkata India- St. Xavier’s University Kolkata – On 15 Dec. 2016 The Saint Xavier’s University Kolkata Bill 2016 was passed in the West Bengal Assembly, India. This new Catholic University established in New Town, Rajarhat, West Bengal to meet the growing need for quality facilities and to encourage private investment in Higher Education of the State.

 

The Xavier Board for Higher Education in India (XBHEI), - Conducted several training programmes for its member institutions in the past 6 months., focusing on the theme spreading Gospel Values, Excellence and Leadership. Some of the programmes held were:

 

i) Fostering Youth and Leadership for Social Change Jan 26-28, 2017. 81 students and 13 faculty members participated in dynamic discussions on; Youth Leadership in Faith Enlivening, Social Change through Media, Youth as Green Ambassadors, Youth for Pro-Life, Family Values and Healthy Interpersonal relationships and dealing with Value Conflicts in Youth

 

ii) A 3 day National Workshop on ‘Transformational Leadership to meet the Challenges of Higher Education Institutions’ was held from Feb 10-12 a Loyola College of Social Sciences, Trivandrum, Kerala. 66 Principals, Rectors, Senior Faculty and Administrators participated on topics such as: Skills required for an Administrator, Innovation and Quality Initiatives, Transformative Leadership, E-Learning and Online Teaching – A Quality Initiative and Servant Leadership

 

iii) A One Day Training Workshop on ‘Train The Trainer’ was Organized at Mount Carmel College (Autonomous) Banglore on 24th Feb 2017 along with the XBHEI

 

 

iv) Another Youth Leadership Camp held at Siloam, Salesian Convention Centre, Megahlaya, March 16-20, 2017 along with the XBHEI

 

v) A summer workshop, “Towards becoming a Professional Teacher” was organized at Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru from 24-26 May 2017. It was held for young faculty members of the XBHEI with an emphasis on Bloom’s Taxonomy, Professional ethics, Mentoring students, Teaching and Research, Passion and Commitment for quality in teaching

 

vi) Post the Triennial Conference at Sahrdaya College of Enng and Tech. Newman University and five XBHEI members have signed an MOU; viz. Salesian College, Silugiri, St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, Santhigiri College, Thodupuzha, St. Teresa’s College, Emakulam and St. Philomena’s College, Mysore
