PUBLICATION - 50 years after the Vatican II Council - Theologiens from all over the world delibarate

Fifty years after its closing, Vatican II addresses us, maybe even more than ever. In a fragile and fractured world, the witness given by the Council of a possible communion between God and humanity remains a vision and inspiration with prophetic strength. To be sure, Conciliar and post-conciliar incidents prevent us from every possible idealization of the Council, its protagonists or even the protagonists of its reception. Nonetheless, in a situation where the Christian faith is confronted with existential quests of a world that searches and questions itself, it is right to salute with all the responsibility it implies the inspired intuition of John XXIII to convene a Council to deliberate on the present stakes and to prepare as such its future…

Fifty years after, Vatican II remains a prophetic reference that should permit the Church, by an ever better use, to be more messianic. Human beings’ dignity, of which the saving relationship to God through Christ and in the Spirit is at the centre of Christian faith, constantly reminds us of the urgent need to be
familiar with Conciliar intuitions.
